Brakes

Electric Parking Brake (EPB) and Active Cornering Assist
(ACA) are introduced on Corolla Hatchback for 2019.

  • The electric parking brake installed on Corolla
HB is similar in construction and operation to Avalon, Camry and C-HR.
  • Active Cornering Assist (ACA) activates in
understeering situations such as when turning under high G-force with
accelerator pedal depressed. The VSC system adds brake force to the driving
wheels according to lateral acceleration and generates yaw moment (Yaw gain)
through differences of driving force between the left and right driving wheels,
    suppressing the understeering condition.

Lighting

Exterior lighting is all LED with triple J-shaped front
clearance lighting for a unique appearance. Intelligent AFS is added for better
visibility in turns.

Combination
Meter / Multi-information display

There are two options for combination
meter/Multi-information display available on the 2019 Corolla HB.

High grade Combination Meter w/ 7” MID and 3D effect panel

The optional 3-D effect panel (Toyota First) is a
transparent acrylic plate ornamentation panel that is in front of the 7-inch
display that is made with tiny grooves that illuminate when light projected through
the plate from the sides. Since the grooves are so minute, they are invisible
to the naked eye. Once illuminated, they appear as if they are floating,
producing a 3-dimensional feel.

Mid/Base grade Combination Meter w/ 4.2” MID
Head-up Display (HUD) is also optional on Corolla HB.

Wiper Updates

The Corolla HB gets a network controlled wiper system like Camry and
Avalon. The new optional windshield deicer system uses a heater element in the
windshield glass to help reduce the formation of ice where the front wipers
park. When the windshield deicer switch is turned on with the engine switch on
(IG), the windshield deicer switch on signal is sent to the air conditioning
amplifier assembly. When the air conditioning amplifier assembly receives this
signal, it heats the windshield deicer.

Toyota Safety
Sense 2.0

The second generation of Toyota Safety Sense includes all
the familiar features of the former TSS-P with the additions of Road Sign
Assist (RSA) and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA). The Corolla HB will include Dynamic
Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with full-speed operation on CVT vehicles. The DRCC
is improved with linked turn signal functionality, allowing for smoother lane
changes with earlier acceleration.

Toyota Safety Sense Comparison

With TSS 2.0, the forward recognition monocular camera is
improved, introducing bicycle and night time detection of pedestrians. The
TSS-C system on previous iM models did not include pedestrian detection. The
improved detection capability improves Pre-collision Warning operation as low
as 6 mph, and Pre-collision Brake operation as low as 3 mph. Refer to the
repair manual and NCF for specific operation information.

Lane Tracing
Assist

Lane Tracing Assist is a new system designed to assist the
driver with steering to keep the vehicle running in the middle of its lane.  It has three main functions, Lane Departure
Alert (LDA) with Steering Control, Vehicle Sway Warning and Lane Centering
Function.

LDA uses the Forward Recognition Camera to recognize roadway
boundaries. The system can recognize grass and dirt as roadway edges when lane
markings are not available. The system will recognize and display the white
lines in the MID for roadway edges the same as lane markings, and will apply
steering assist as needed.

Vehicle Sway Warning works similarly to earlier systems and
will notify the driver if the system is having to make too many steering
corrections. This system is not intended for autonomous steering and the system
will warn the driver and stop the vehicle if there is not enough driver input
to the steering wheel.

The Lane Centering function utilizes lane markers to center
the vehicle in its lane. In the absence of identified lane markings, the Lane
Centering function uses the Millimeter Wave Radar to assist the Forward
Recognition Camera to recognize and calculate the path of the preceding vehicle
and uses steering assist to trace its route. The following image is displayed
in the MID when it is activated.

Note: Vehicles
equipped with Manual Transmissions are equipped with the earlier Lane Departure
Alert system instead of Lane Tracing Assist.
