Digital Display Rear View
Mirror
A feature new to Toyota on the RAV4 is the Digital Display
Rear View Mirror. The digital inner rear-view mirror system is a driving assist
device that displays video from a camera mounted in the rear window on a
display in the inner rear-view mirror. This new system enables the driver to
check the rear-view without the headrest, luggage, rear sunshade, etc.
obstructing line of sight while providing a wider field of vision.

When in digital mirror mode, video from the rear-view
mirror camera is displayed across the whole mirror glass area. When switched to
surface mirror mode, the video feed is cancelled, and the mirror surface
reflects like an ordinary inner rear-view mirror.

The digital inner mirror combines the automatic anti-glare electrochromic (EC) mirror with the LCD screen that displays the images captured by the inner mirror camera assembly.
Air Conditioning
updates
Air conditioning updates include new logic and cold storage evaporator to accommodate start-stop operation on low-grade models, new control modes, along with heated and ventilated seating options.

Air Inlet Control Mode
When the power switch is
turned off with the air inlet in RECIRC mode, the system changes the air inlet
to FRESH mode automatically when parking to ventilate the air conditioning
unit. Air Inlet control is customizable with Techstream.

Smell Suppression
Control Mode
To control foul odor when
turning on the air conditioning system, Smell Suppression Control operates the
mode door, blower motor and A/C compressor. Smell Suppression Control consists
of two functions: BI-LEVEL Control when Parking and Blower Delay Control.
Regardless of the air conditioning running or which mode it was in, the mode door switches to BI-LEVEL after power off to promote ventilation of the HVAC box, and then to FOOT at power on. The A/C compressor operates at power on for several seconds before the blower turns on and the blower level starts at low speed until the mode door changes to the driver requested position. As a result, smell in the air conditioning unit is absorbed by the moisture on the evaporator and when the blower turns on the air is directed away from the occupants. After discharging air to the FOOT area for several seconds the mode door changes to the driver selected position and blower speed ramps up to the driver requested speed (normal control).
The Blower must be set to
AUTO and the evaporator temp must be under 86 degrees F for Blower Delay
Control to operate.

With Techstream, Fan Speed
Increment Control can be customized. This allows customization of how quickly
the blower goes to target speed after Blower Delay Control.
Driver Assistance
System updates
The updated Toyota Safety
Sense includes all the familiar features of the former Toyota Safety Sense-P system
with the additions of Road Sign Assist (RSA) and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA). The
RAV4 will include Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with full-speed
operation. The DRCC is improved with linked turn signal functionality, allowing
for smoother lane changes with earlier acceleration.
The forward recognition
monocular camera is improved, introducing bicycle and night time (low light) detection
of pedestrians. The improved detection capability improves Pre-collision
Warning operation as low as 6 mph, and Pre-collision Brake operation as low as
3 mph. Refer to the repair manual and NCF for specific operation information.
Road Sign Assist
The Road Sign Assist function
will use the Forward Recognition Camera to identify common road signs and
display them in the MID and Head-Up Display (if equipped).
When the driving support
system (LDA) information is selected in the MID, a maximum of 3 signs can be displayed.
When a tab other than the driving support system information is selected, only
a recognized speed limit sign or do not enter sign (when notification is
necessary) will be displayed. If
signs other than speed limit signs are recognized, they will be displayed in an
overlapping stack under the current speed limit sign.

On low-grade models with Start and Stop system, RSA system input can be used to recognize stop signs and modify the engine stop timing. When a stop sign is recognized, the engine stop will be delayed so that the vehicle will need to remain stationary for a longer period before stopping the engine.
Parking
Assist Monitoring
Updates to the monitoring
systems include a new long-range detection area for Blind Spot Monitoring
(BSM), and new Parking Support Brake (PKSB) system. PKSB is a combination of
Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) and Rear Cross Traffic Auto Brake (RCTAB)
functions found on other Toyota models.

The long-range detection area (area *b above shaded light gray = 197 ft.) that has been added to BSM allows for detection of fast-approaching vehicles. If another vehicle that is rapidly approaching the vehicle’s blind spot is detected, the notification timing is determined by the relative speed of the approaching vehicle. The notification timing for rapidly approaching vehicles is customizable through BSM settings in the MID.
Telematics

As a part of Entune 3.0, RAV4 is now equipped with the 17CY Multimedia
system including Apple CarPlay, Safety Connect, and on higher grades it also
includes Remote Connect, Service Connect, Wi-Fi Connect and Destination Assist
Connect features
